Our Guide to Becoming an Elite Gamer

If you enjoy gaming or you think it looks like something you’d enjoy, you might benefit from becoming an elite gamer. Some gamers join clubs and end up entering competitions, which if won, can result in a lot of money for each member of the team. In fact, you could call yourself a ‘professional gamer’ once you’ve reached this stage. What an exciting career to pursue?! If you’re very good, you could make a living for a long time with your skill. Even if you don’t wish to make money from gaming but would just like to become known in the gaming world, this post can help you. Take a look at my top tips and tricks to help you on your way!

Find the Perfect Console for You

The first step you need to take is finding the best console for you. There are plenty for you to choose from, such as the Playstation and the Xbox. You may already have an idea of which you like best if you’ve used them before. The controls are different and gameplay differs slightly, so you’ll need to weigh up the pros and cons of each so you can make your decision. Here are some questions you can ask that may help you:

  • Does the controller of this console feel right in my hands? Some controllers won’t feel right to you, while others will feel perfect.
  • Will I get used to using the controller? If you’ve used one before, it can take some getting used to.
  • Do I like the look of gameplay on this console?
  • Do I like the games available for this console? Different consoles may have a different variety of games available.
  • Do I have friends or know other people with the same console, so I can play with them online? If not, you’ll be playing alone or with strangers.

Pick a Great Username

To use lots of games consoles, especially if you plan on playing online, you’ll need to pick a great username. If you can pick the same username across multiple platforms, other gamers may begin to recognise you as a regular. Make sure you don’t copy anybody else’s username, especially a professional. They won’t take kindly if you have a name that is too similar to theirs when you’re trying to reach pro status too. Your username shouldn’t be too complicated or hard to read. Make sure it’s memorable!

Pick Your Favourite Game/Games

By picking your favourite games, you can begin to master your technique on them. Pick one you like best and focus on that first. You can learn all about this game, and try to become the best at it. Once you feel you’ve done that, pick another game and move on. You’re not limited to one genre either; try as many games as you like!

However, if you want to make money using one particular game, you may not want to move on too quickly. You want to be able to call yourself an ‘elite’ player.

Get the Accessories

Gameplay is always better with a few great accessories. An x rocker gaming chair could make your gaming experience much more exciting. A headset will help you to communicate with other players in certain games. There are hundreds more accessories you might like to try playing with too. Although accessories won’t necessarily make you a better player, they’ll make your experience a great one each and every time.

Don’t Use Inappropriate Language Online

Because playing online can be a faceless affair, some gamers don’t think twice about using inappropriate language. They swear at other people and call them names. If this happens to you, try to ignore it. If you must respond, don’t use inappropriate language back. You stand more of a chance of becoming a pro gamer if you remain courteous. People will usually only call you names if you’re beating them anyway! Take it as a compliment; they’re jealous of how well you play the game. Nobody likes a sore loser or an obnoxious winner, so go about your gameplay gracefully and you’re bound to go far.

Take breaks

You really don’t want to be one of those gamers that doesn’t move out of their chair. Please, for the love of all that is holy, take breaks. You need to take breaks for many reasons. You need to eat, for one. Proper food; not just chips and other quick snack foods! You also need to get fresh air. Sitting inside all day long is no good for humans. You need to experience the real world too. Sitting around playing games every waking moment of your life will only disrupt your sleeping pattern and cause weight gain. You may even end up with a distorted view of reality. Go outside and get some exercise before you get pressure sores from sitting on your behind.

Use Youtube and Twitch to Help You

If you need more help, Youtube and Twitch can be fantastic resources. Youtube will give you just about any tutorial you need for any game. It’ll explain the ins and outs, and may even give you some valuable tips and tricks along the way.

Twitch will allow you to watch elite players and how they do things. You’ll be able to see how they handle important situations, and how they react when they have to think fast. It can be a great way to improve your own technique by taking inspiration from them.

At the end of the day, the only thing that will really help you master your technique is lots of practice. You shouldn’t expect to be a pro gamer in a week, a month, or even a few months. Your technique will continue to improve, but it could take 6 months – a year or more before you can be considered elite. However, if you want to make a living from this, it’ll be well worth it. Whoever said you couldn’t make a living from playing video games?

Enjoy!
