Nikon D800 is a new full frame DSLR, announced in the first week of February, 2012. It has been developed from the base model of D700; but it is not a replacement for the same. This DSLR is specially designed for professionals and enthusiasts. It comes with a 36 mega pixel sensor that will give highest quality of images. Also it is developed on a broader base to give the user better grip while shooting pictures with this camera. D800 is a heavy DSLR and the basic weight of this camera is 1KG. The body of the camera is large and the pouter part of the body is made of metal and rubber like material to give a soft touch and better hold to the user. The shutter button is placed in a slightly angular position to give a better natural control option to the photographer. The video capture button is placed just behind the shutter button. It features a 35.9 x 24 mm CMOS sensor, with 36.3 effective megapixels. While clicking pictures at the maximum resolution, the photographer will get 4 frames per second. User can choose ISO speed from 50 to 25600. Photographers also have the option of shooting in different crop modes, such as FX mode, DX mode, 5:4 and 1.2x mode. In the back of the camera, a 3.2 inch 921k dot LCD display is placed with 100% field of view viewfinder. This LCD screen has light ambiance meter as well to adjust the light setting of the subject. The viewfinder can display the subjects at 51AF. With D800, user can record full HD video at 1920 x 1080 resolutions at 30/25/24 fps. If the user captures the video at 1280×720 resolutions then, he can record the videos at 60/50 fps. D800 also equipped with USB 3.0 so that the images can be transferred to the computers swiftly. The native file NEF-RAW of a full HDR image can goes up to 76MB. It comes with internal memory and there are slots for both CF and SD card to add more storage space. D800 also has the option to attach better zoom lenses and flashes. But for normal usage, D800 is itself very well equipped with all the features and necessary software and tools.

D800 is will be available in the market commercially from 22nd March, 2012. The cost will be approximately $2399. For many, the cost is on higher side, but considering all the neat features and the power of Nikon, this price is justified. This DSLR looks and feels great and it can easily compete with Canon EOS 5D Mk II as this camera is flooded with great features.
